NEWSometimes there is pain in caringThis drama has a light style with some humour. Man walks in and takes a seat, nurse is standing with her back to the audience, nurse keeps her back to the audience at all times. Nurse: Good morning sir. So, you have come to give some blood? Man: That’s right. I thought it was a good idea at the time. Nurse: Don’t tell me, now you are not so sure? Man: Are there many like me then? Nurse: What scared of a litle needle? Man: Yes, that’s right scared of the needle. Are there many like me scared of a little needle? Nurse: Noooooo! [ word extended for a long time ] Man: Oh, right. Nurse: Can you roll up your sleeve, and we will get this over as quickly as possible. Man: Can I ask you a question? Nurse: Go right ahead. Man: Have you been doing this job for long? Nurse: Twenty three years. Man: So you must be really good at your job? Nurse: Well, we all have our good days… Man: Would you say this is a good day, or a bad day? Nurse: Well it did not start out too good: first I slept in; then I was rushing down the stairs and tripped over the cat; he ran up the stairs and knocked over a £2,000 piece of china that I had just bought; then the shower ran out of hot water; and as I was jumping out I slipped on the soap; then the car would not start and… Man: Right, so not one of your best days. Am I your first patient today? Nurse: No, you are my third. The first one fainted the moment he walked in to the treatment room; the second one fainted, slid off the chair and banged his head and had to be taken to casualty. So I hope YOU'RE not going to give me any trouble! Man: I am not sure if this is such a good idea any more? Nurse: Oh, you will be all right, how much can it hurt? [ Nurse turns around with an extra large needle, man gets up and runs out - could use a basting syringe if not able to get a real one. ] Nurse: Why does everyone think I am going to cause them pain, don’t they know I am a caring person? Nurse as narrator: Many times with the caring professions there is pain. This can be in a child coming into hospital for the first time and being separated from a mummy or daddy. Sometimes it can be in the pain of the unknown. As Christians we see this pain and when PRAYER is added to CARE, the fear can go and the pain can be healed. Jesus calls us to be His hands, His voice, His eyes, His ears. He also calls us to share the pain of those around us.
