As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”’ John 20:21 (NIV) ‘And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature (of the whole human race)”.’ Mark 16:15 (Amplified Bible) The word missionary means ‘one sent on a mission’ If a missionary is one sent on a mission, and Jesus commands each of us to go into the world and share the good news of the Gospel, then each of us is a missionary (Matt 28:19). Where God has placed us, in our families, our work, our community, that is our mission field. We are Christ’s missionary in that place. How we live our lives and share our faith has a tremendous influence on those around us. A study was done in America of eight thousand Christians. They were asked what had influenced them to become a Christian. The results were: 1% said a TV evangelist or crusade 2% said a church visitation programme 3% through being invited to church for a dinner etc. 4% through going to Sunday school as a child 5% just walked into church 8% were led to the Lord by the Pastor 76% became Christians through family and friends |
